I have been working at Barnes & Noble full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Rank and file employees in corporate HQ are smart and dedicated, they truly want to make a difference. Excellent place for a young person to gain varied experience and be promoted quickly or for older workers whose primary goals are around family and home life rather than workplace ambition.

    Cons

Distinct lack of overarching vision or strategy from executive management causes mass confusion - teams that should be working in concert are often at odds because they are working towards different goals. Direction changes constantly and the employee base is as confused as the marketplace about what B&N stands for. Very little room for growth past a certain level.

I worked at Barnes & Noble full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you like reading and being on top of all the latest books then this is the place for you. All the employees here are very friendly and make great co-workers. Management is organized and will teach you or help you in anything you need to make the best of your job if you ask them.

    Cons

Not the best choice for a lifetime career if you are a bookseller. Once you are management and have become fulltime then you can consider staying and retiring in the company.

    Advice to Management

Management should try to involve themselves more with the staff and be more motivational.
