I worked at Baxter as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

I worked at Baxter for 12 weeks as an IT intern, it was a great experience. I met over 30 upper management employees for one on one coffee chats, no one at this company will deny another person 30 minutes of their time. The overall culture is down to earth people who enjoy helping others. The CIO knew all the IT interns by name at the end of the internship. I also received above average compensation and most interns receive full time offers.

Cons

The IT intern program is only in its 2nd year so there is little formal training and managers do not know how much work interns can handle so the first few weeks are very slow. The IT culture is also dominated by a huge age gap where most employees are over 40.

Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, just bring in younger talent and do not be afraid to hire entry level analysts from the outside.

I worked at Baxter full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, and... that's about it

    Cons

Dis-functional senior leadership team that is disconnected from reality and does not get the full picture of how the plant truly functions. Senior leadership team asks more question and provide implied criticism then provide mentorship. Plant manager drives a culture that believes everyone is replaceable. QMR promotes micromanaging culture. Veteran employees have developed an attitude that holds nothing accountable, which seems to be a necessary survival skill. Minimal employee appreciation, typical 'reward hard and good work with more work' attitude

    Advice to Management

Stop questioning and criticizing, do more mentoring and consulting

I worked at Baxter full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great research experience, management left alone, no micro management, make your own time to work as long as you do your 8 hours a day.

    Cons

Baxter took over and everything went downhill

    Advice to Management

Money is not the answer to everything.
