I worked at Baxter as an intern (More than 3 years)

Pros

You can work 9-4:30 and be considered working normal hours.
Great for settled families
It's like working for a big family

Cons

Not a place for younger people
Heavily regulated, strict about following quality

Advice to Management

Make younger people feel valued or that they have a chance to succeed.
Feels like the company is stuck in sand

I have been working at Baxter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has many great products.
Senior leaders are willing to invest in acquisitions for new products and technologies.
Company is financially stable and sound.
    Good work life balance.

    Cons

Limited ability to develop products in-house. R&D process is slow to non-existent.
Limited upward mobility unless you are inner circle.
Few senior leaders able or willing to make a decision by themselves, almost always seek group thought/agreement before moving forward.
Limited career development plan. Talking points sounds good, but an actual plan clearly communicated to the employees would be nice.

    Advice to Management

It is ok to make decisions based on the information at hand. Not all decisions need to be analyzed to death, then agreed upon by a group.
Invest in your employee's development, encourage mid-level managers to train and cultivate young talent, encourage promotion from within the company rather than bringing in outside people.

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Baxter full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fairly good reputation. Some very good products and mediocre pipeline. Pays above average.

    Cons

HR (Bioscience) is lacking professionalism and respect. Poorly functioning teams throughout organization.

    Advice to Management

Need to resist promoting people who are unable to lead. Unfortunately I witnessed may promotions based on ability to "kiss up" versus real talent.
