Pros

There are good employees who work well together. You really get to develop relationships with customers. Working as a team builds comradery between employees.

Cons

Upper management tries to call all of the shots which turns the branch manager into a puppet. Micro management is common. There is so much emphasis on having the fewest employees posssible to keep the operating costs down but this leads to low morale from less employees having to do more.

Advice to Management

Let the branch manager do the job you have hired him to do and trust his abilities. Choosing employees because of experience should not trump character issues, effort and teamwork.

    I have been working at Beacon Roofing full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great leadership and direction. Great human resources department and support. Unbelievable CEO with great values and willingness to hear you out. Canadian president has real people values and takes time to speak to everyone. All ideas are taken under serious consideration. The company cares about their employees. Corporate team is always available to support the team in order to succeed. Support is available at every level with no limits.

    Cons

    Unfortunately there are branch managers who try to defy the corporate values and try to run their own show. If corporate would find out, they would take care of the problem but unfortunately some employees don't speak out or reach out. They end up leaving unhappy and the wrong impression of the company. When the CEO's message is "it's all about the people" and some managers don't respect the message... it makes all the efforts seem useless.

    Advice to Management

    CEO and corporate keep promoting the Beacon vision and find ways to eliminate managers who defy the vision. Interview employees or invite employees to speak out without fear of losing their jobs. It may cost the company to have to change some managers but at the end... employees will feel supported and loyalty will prevail.

    Pros

    Used to be a good company with the former Canadian President.

    Cons

    The company values changed drastically with the new Canadian President. Lack of communication, less cooperation, no teamwork.
