I worked at Beckman Coulter part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Firstly, the pay was extremely competitive as far as internships go. Additionally, my co-workers were all very humble, caring people. It was easy to communicate pragmatically with colleagues and just generally "get real." Massive site that provides opportunity in almost every sector the company specializes in - from manufacturing to purchasing to research & development. Oh, and there's an awesome cafeteria. Again, huge site. Great knowing that the company makes an honest product. It's a good place to work at, no doubt.

Cons

You feel the corporate grip sometimes it feels like that gets in the way of accomplishing certain goals. Feels like the interests from the corporate level do not necessarily coincide with the vision of local management. Good amount of workforce has been affiliated with the company for a long time. Therefore, they've seen the decline in certain employee benefits that were once a staple of the company. Just a general consensus that the company might have ventured to deeply into the Lean side of business. Site is somewhat isolated on the city but not far from the highway and main roadways.

Advice to Management

When hiring an intern, consider the purpose for which internships were originally created.

I worked at Beckman Coulter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Profitable. Goal Driven. Good market. Has good market share(for now). Not a bad place to gain experience as there are lots of opportunities to improve systems and environment.

    Cons

Top heavy on management and cut, cut, cut in the true value adders. Poor quality system, high potential for quality issues. Siloed mentality between the sites. Low moral and minimal effort to address. Danaher focused on metrics using a punitive stick. Very minimal root cause analysis of metric results. Working there is very similar to the old navy sayings "Beatings will continue until morale improves.

    Advice to Management

Focus on your customers and listen to your employees.
