I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Growth potential
Salary
Liberal but challenging working environment
Product knowledge
Engaging working environment
Quality peers
Your time off was not interrupted & respected
Diverse company profile with recent acquisitions of other models
Debt free & solid with no real market competition
Customer loyalty

Cons

District management agenda & intervention
At times you are a overpaid stocker & less a manager
Better training program needed. Currently a one size fits all fast track
Antiquated in some areas like POS & scanners
Not your average Big Box experience

Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging & being so clandestine with Big Picture. You hire quality people so let them lead their stores. You advertise store process "ownership" however my experience was that every important decision especially upward mobility was a DM decision.
Realize that fast tracking a new manager is going to "get you what you pay for."

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work was not mentally challenging, the staff works together and there is not competition for manager's approval. Company is large so unlikely to fold quickly.

    Cons

Some departments have little movement and some customers can be demanding, but that is not the fault of management. Minimal growth opportunities. Like most retail, there are some hectic times of the year.

    Advice to Management

Try to address the store as a whole entity, not just merely departments.

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Pay was good for management

    Cons

Very long hours. Not family oriented at all. District and upper do not care about store level employees. Would not recommend

    Advice to Management

Can't just keep adding more work at store level, cut hours and expect morale to stay up in the stores. Some if not most of the district and regional staff that have not run a store in the past 5 years would probably not make it as a store manager. Most have no idea the pressure of what needs to be done with the hours given.
