    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Ben & Jerry's as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Generous with ice cream, concerned with employee safety, excellent recycling and reuse policies, treats regular employees fairly well.

    Cons

Ageism on mfg line--younger employees preferred (obvious, but not overtly stated), contingent employees treated like second class citizens, no lockers available for use during contingency (if used an open locker, expected to remove everything at end of shift--including work related gear) If work slow or company shut down, contingent employees first sent home (no pay).

    Advice to Management

Many FT employees begin as contingents and simply look forward to the day they are "converted" and receive all the perks and a large pay raise, others are checking out the company as well as being viewed themselves. Compared to other places, with similar practices, this Ben & Jerry's plant was horrible in my experience. At minimum, give temporary workers a locker to use--even a shared one is better than none!
