I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

I liked working at best buy for several years because they treated me well and gave me many options for trying new responsibilities.

Cons

Wish they would have paid more so I could afford my new car that I wanted. Its hard to buy new cars for ten dollars.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There was alot of great people that really enjoyed working there and were really friendly, even most supervisors and GMs were really fun to talk to and work with

I worked with cell phones so it was nice being able to get to use and demonstrate alot of the new phones

You get monthly bonuses if you work for Best Buy mobile

while the discount is not the same as it used to be you can still get a pretty good discount on alot of merchandise they sell and you have access to EOL electronics that you can buy at even larger reduced prices

    Cons

The corporate offices always try to micro manage every store even if it is preforming well above its goal

For every person that loves their job there is about 2 that hate it, which makes it difficult to enjoy the work environment sometimes

one of the things best buy seems to be proud of is the fact that the Mobile employees are non commissioned, as an employee this is a rip off, it demeans the task of selling and you end up making a lot more money for best buy and a whole lot less for you self

a lot of favoritism, The managers would promote only those they were close friends with, which
made it difficult to move up even if you had proven your worth to the company

With a lot of movement within the company, the policies are constantly changing and employees tend to do something wrong unintentionally and get reprimanded for it.

Some store managers abuse their power by being hypocritical about employees on their phone, when they themselves do it on a more frequent basis for their personal use on the clock

One thing best buy can't really control, is the large amount of customers who try to force a deal out of you and give back feedback to managers to make you look bad when you are not able to
Customers tend to try and strong arm any employee they can and it creates a hostile workplace for everyone due to the high tension

    Advice to Management

The District managers and territory managers need to back off of stores that are doing well, and focus more on the stores doing poorly. It always seem to be a battle between GMs,department managers and district managers this needs to stop, the focus should be on attaining your goal and if a store is doing that there should not be a need to interfere unless it is unethical, or unless there is a valid reason a proccess should be implemented
