I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Friendly employees and management and they really attempt to put you in the right place in the store. I know that other Best Buys are different.

Cons

Customers could be a pain, but you deal with that at all retail positions. Also, having to sell credit cards as though my life depended on it was what made me quit.

Advice to Management

Credit card and Black Tie pressure is too much.

"Great retailer to work for. But don't fool yourself, it is still retail.."

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - The discount is good and various vendor accommodations are wonderful.
    - The atmosphere and culture are fun, even a little zany at times.
    - Some customers redeem your faith in humanity and are really great to work with.
    - Some of the people you will work with are absolutely amazing.
    - Flexible hours and scheduling.
    - Corporate culture is very diverse and inclusive. Mad props in that regard, and credit where credit is due, particularly with recent work on being inclusive to the LGBT community.

    Cons

    - The discount used to be much better. Ah well.
    - The atmosphere and culture is highly influenced by the individual store you work at. Sometimes it is overbearing and juvenile.
    - Some customers are terrible, angry, demanding, and soul-sucking people.
    - Some of your coworkers and managers are just lazy, incompetent, or stupid. You'll run into the full gambit of humanity at Best Buy, with some amazingly talented people and some less so.
    - Hours and scheduling does involve holidays, especially Black Friday. Be prepared to work 10 hours the day after Thanksgiving.
    - Compensation for line-level employees is terrible, but fairly standard for retail.
    - Job security is really shaky as the entire retail industry implodes and explodes. Many middle management positions were eliminated in the name of efficiency, which makes the few positions that remain fiercely competitive spots.

    Advice to Management

Look. If I knew how to turn around the sinking ship that is brick and mortar retail, I would be filthy rich. I would tell you to fix OMS, or to get a better online presence, or to completely revamp your payment structure for line-level employees... but anything I tell you will either cost a lot of time or money or both.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great training programs
Wonderful opportunity to advance in a company

    Cons

Monotonous Retail environment made even more cyclical by the way leadership handles holidays, events, etc.

    Advice to Management

Management shouldn't be untouchable from rules and policies
