I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great employee discount on some items. (Some items have no discount.) Working in the Mobile Department is one of the only departments to consistently get a monthly bonus, even if it is under $100 for part-timers.

    Cons

Hours per week are based on performance in the previous weeks. This means that although we do not work on commission, employees still have to trample each other to get a sale in order to get more than 12-20 hours a week! And selling the phone itself is not enough; if we fail to sell the Geek Squad protection and at least one accessory, it seems to count against us.

As far as "No employee goes untrained", this means you pretty much train yourself; although you have a person or two to help you on the sales floor, (which gets the customers angry that their sale is being interrupted), you are also required to do "e-learnings" on down-time, which is rare, because if it is slow, every part-timer's hours are cut. You can do them at home, as long as you only do 2 hours a month.

    Advice to Management

It would be very helpful to have some training for couple of weeks before being put on the floor.

Also, "it's not what you say, but how you say it." During the monthly one-on-one, it would go a long way in encouraging employees to do better if you tell them what they are doing well instead of only telling them how much they are failing.
