I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Fast pace environment.

Easy to learn.

Lots of skills that are taught besides customer service. Product flow, cashier, phone contract activations. Get a chance to be around the latest mobile tech.

Awesome company discount. Possibility of advancement.

Cons

Don't meet the quotas, hours get cut.

Low starting pay with no bonus or benefits for seasonal employees.

Numerous complaints about their protection plan and buy back plan.

Disorganized stock room.

Advice to Management

Needs to be more organized with their products. District manager was a joke, as he sometimes came in there "testing" their associates therefore making them uncomfortable rather than productive. Never knew why he walked in there.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers are interesting and dependable overall. Great discount and access to information on new technology.

    Cons

Basis of evaluation does not accurately reflect employee assets. Managers can create a cutthroat environment and cause friction. Employees are not viewed as people beyond the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Pointing out an employee's notional margin per hour is not a pep talk.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-The company and coworkers have a lot of energy
    -The products are fun
    -the employee discount is generous
-scheduling tended to be very flexible and willing to work with your schedule, even if it changed week to week. (My coworker was on a hockey team and gave our supervisor his practice and game schedule and our supervisor was totally willing to look at that every week and schedule around it)

    Cons

-no bonuses or commissions of any kind
-the quality of the work environment is INCREDIBLY dependent on the store General Manager, I worked for 4, so I REALLY got to see how much a manager affects the climate of the store.
-Sometimes they lose sight of workers as individuals...
