I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Discount
Buddy up with management and get promoted fast

    Cons

Favoritism, promotions based not on sales performance or profit and loss management or even profitable innovation but on networking and (again) favoritism.
Inconsistent, I've seen individuals terminated for things others get away with everyday, then others who have done worse Rehired.

    Advice to Management

Marketing and advertising is crucial to the future of this company, more emphasis on the "value props" like mobile phone protection vs competitors would be much much more effective then an ad with Amy Pohler from parks and rec (a choice I'm sure was based on her affordability vs someone who would be more easily recognized that's more popular.) DMs need to spend more time IN STORES taking the pulse of the business on the ground. Too much emphasis is being placed on micromanaging irrelevant parts of the score card ie. who cares about UPT or ASP if you're making the most overall money? If I sell 10000 candy bars at 1 dollar a piece and someone sells 1 television with everything totaling 5000, I still out sold him. Emphasize sales excellence, change the way training is rolled out in fact I'd even make a manager in charge of that vs some of the other managers in the building.
