Neutral Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Entrepenurial spirit, Flexibility, People, Culture at the time was great

Cons

No documentation - starting over, again and again.
Retail experience outside of BBY wasn't valued

Advice to Management

Stop with the weekly purges, if the talent is weak - get rid of them but a weekly purge is demoralizing. Your problems won't be solved by a couple of high powered executives - it will only be resolved when the organization starts working together - not out of fear.

    Pros

Working with growing technology and becoming an expert on them

    Cons

Management most of the time played favorites and never really had your back. A lot of behind the scenes politics being played.

    Advice to Management

    Start showing some HUMILITY!!

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work environment is pretty casual as long as you're taking care of customers, fun and interesting people that you can approach to learn about different technologies and/or sellin strategies

    Cons

Very aggressive performance metrics that are hard to achieve on your own (granted, Best Buy is having trouble staying profitable in light of online retailers like amazon, so the goals need to be high). Also, not very much in the way of training. There is an online tool that has various informative documents/games/quizzes on specific products or for specific manufacturers, but they really rely on you knowing your stuff. You would have to stay on top of new technology everyday and be ready to know about it as if you, yourself, we're the inventor

    Advice to Management

Take time to learn about each employee...their strengths and weaknesses, their ambitions, goals, etc
