Pros

Learns lots of great skills, there is quick movement for promotions in some areas, work life balance is decent outside of holiday season. There is a gym on campus, cafeteria is solid/reliable, dry cleaning services, banking as well, very convenient. If you are assertive with your direct leadership you can really make sure you are getting the personal development that you would want out of your position. You have an opportunity to take your career to any area you are passionate about just because you have a supply chain background doesn't mean you can't become a merchant or go to marketing.

Cons

Most top talent leaves after a couple years because compensation is not competitive, people come in and get the skills/training they need to be successful and they leave for better compensation. Layoff re-structure in 2014 is very distracting to the campus, every week entire team's are consolidated and jobs impacted. Under performing individual contributors typically don't get fired or helped they continue to drain the team, until layoffs come and they are the first person to get cut or their manager helps them get promoted to another area so they are someone else's problem.

Advice to Management

Be mindful of current opportunities:

So some area's constantly need to rehire, retrain people because we can't retain the people we should. Pros

Relaxed dress code (business casual), great employee discount, easy to find your niche and stay for a long time.

    Cons

Re-orgs every 14-18 months, people cut by VPs and above who have very little visibility into the value of an employee, lots of office politics, extremely politically correct, everybody speaks the latest "buzzwords" related to the most recent initiative spouted off by senior leadership.

    Advice to Management

Stop chasing after the latest brainchild of some brainless idiot in Marketing and stick with something for longer than 8 months. Granted, this has improved substantially under Hubert Joly's tenure, as previous leadership all came from the "good old boy" network of former store employees back in the sixties. Update your online presence, and put some money into advertising Geek Squad!
