    Pros

-Store Management worked well together and respected employees
-Decent pay for retail (min wage to start raise after 90 days)
-Since not everything in store was plan-o-grammed employees were allowed to use best judgement for merchandising, allowing us to take ownership of how our store appeared to customers
-New store so it wasn't as run down as some other Big Lots stores
-Early morning hours meant done with work by noon :o)
-DM was always in store and very friendly
-I will ALWAYS remember my Big Lots family as we had a blast together in good times and stressful ones.

    Cons

-Corporate always sent way too much stuff so the warehouse was always a disaster which led to frustration and occasional arguments among stock crew
-Corporate wanted stock crew to only work 3 days a week (can't live on 18 hour a week checks)
-Early morning hours took some getting used to
-Majority of product was not priced, pricing would take almost a full day leaving only 2 days for stocking shelves when Corporate got it's way
-Constantly had to rearrange huge sections of the store to "make it fit" sometimes at the expense of store flow making sense.

    Advice to Management

MORE HOURS TO MAKE YOUR STORE LOOK LIKE IT SHOULD AND GIVE STRUGGLING STORES A ONE WEEK SHIPMENT HOLD TO GET CAUGHT UP IF THEY DON'T HAVE SPACE FOR THE PRODUCT

    Pros

Casual, friendly atmosphere. Good employee discounts. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Ridiculous expectations. 53' trucks, with 80% or more of freight unpalletized, must be shelved within 24-48 hrs. of receipt, despite little available shelf space on most weeks, and employees are not given hours to complete tasks. Too many managers for one store, and when not enough employees are scheduled, management complains about having to do the work. Total lack of communication on store and corporate levels. DM's are clueless as to what goes on in stores. Company seems to put more importance on loss prevention than anything else, including employee safety.

    Advice to Management

Learn about what is going on in your stores BEFORE you make policy. Don't ship freight based on weekly sales, but by what the store has on hand. Don't send us 45 cases of cereal, when we haven't sold that much in two months. Get with store management about stock. Also, don't hand out hours based on truck size, but rather what needs done. You want a 2700 piece truck done in two days? Give us the hours in a week to get it done. I wonder how much Mr. Fishman is even aware of.
