Pros

Not much to say here. Decent medical plans.

Cons

HORRIBLE Company to work for. Horrible pay. Promotions will come if you know “people”, otherwise you are stuck with the same job for life. Conservative and old culture. Company is run by “good old boys” network. Personal and professional developments are nonexistent. If you are women, or minority I feel sorry for you. RUN RUN RUN!! The management is full of themselves. They are artificially jacking up the stock price so that they can retire with ton of money. The stock evaluation is wrecked. The average age of employees is 58. This should tell you they are counting their days till retirement. Do not get a job there. Employee morale is all time low.

Advice to Management

Hopeless....

    Pros

    Executive management ego boosting. (Yes, they read this too.)

    Cons

    Actual working environment is distorted for engineers. Good to con people when they are stupid, desperate and don't know better. These posts are read by executive management. Ego boosting is the primary goal. Secondly, they are boosting stock share price that is included in retirement plans. When the bastards leave, they profit while leaving the company in an unworkable mess.

    Advice to Management

    The continuous improvement strategy is good when used to improve stock price by a) increased market share b) increased revenue. However, turning 1,200 employees from permanent to temporary to avoid the PPACA, reducing employer health coverage, and stock buy back programs between Divisions of BV Holding Company, the result is that the EXECUTIVE ELEMENT (reducing internal project costs - engineer take-home) of continuous improvement has screwed the average engineer, and ends up producing average products resulting in legacy legal liability and loss. Stop attacking the engineers who produce your product. Figure out how to stop raping your engineers. A quality product is the FIRST concern. Making money is the second. Everything follows after that.

    Pros

    Very little. They have decent medical benefits, but not much else.

    Cons

    Everything!!! B&V management and leadership is so diabolically bad that the entire company is one giant mismanaged disaster. There is a severe lack of decent management in every level of this company, irrespective of any particular division (telecom, water, energy, etc.). Pay levels are generally at the bottom of any industry average, and the company provides very little incentives to stick around. The company tries to hire overqualifed candidates and place them in lower level positions at reduced salaries while still giving them more advanced responsiblities, as they have been taking advantage of the bad economy over the past 5+ years. But this always backfires, as the more qualified employees eventuallly realize their mistake and inevitably quit after a while. No training is provided, and you will immediately get thrown under the bus when things go awry. But since nobody within the company can provide any training (management doesn't even understand the companies own processes or systems), or develop permanent and logical solutions, you'll be left to fend for yourself until you resolve the issues yourself and learn everything yourself as you go along. There are few opportunities for internal advancement, unless you're part of the 'favoritism' crowd. The company culture is obsessed with hiring externally, and only hiring personal contacts, rather than promoting internally from within the company or vetting anyone properly. In other words, you're stuck at whatever job you get hired at, if you're even (un)lucky enough to get hired in the first place. The only way to get promoted is to quit (or threaten to do so), work for a competitor, and wait for B&V to try and hire you back. Favoritism rules, and most of the 'leadership' shuns new ideas. They are stuck doing things the only way they know how (which hasn't worked before), and they only want to hire people they know from previous. Hence the company is stuck in the past and can't progress like most competitive companies. The average age of their engineers is over 50. Since these people aren't going anywhere anytime soon, innovation is more or less frowned upon, and the company-wide culture is against any change whatsoever . Their long term work is questionable as well, as they only have one big client within the telecom group (AT&T), and even with that being said they still can't manage the work effectively. In time even this work will fade away, and BV Telecom will inevitably have to shrink. Unfortunately for BV, their only solution is always to hire more people, since most of the company is bereft of true problem solvers. Sadly, history shows that empire building only has one final outcome, which is sadly the same direction BV is heading in. The rug will get pulled out from under this company in due time (starting with their telecom division), but it's doubtful anyone in any sort of leaderhip role within BV will notice until it's too late. Only work for this company if you need a paycheck. If you already have a decent job, don't even consider working here.

    Advice to Management

    Quit, so more competent people can take your place.
