I worked at BlackBerry as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

-plenty of email & meeting communication experience
-often have the ability to do the same work as regular full-time staff
-open atmosphere it turns of being able to suggest other ideas
-casual dress code
-people are down-to-earth

Cons

-since it's a very large company it can be easy to feel unimpactful, however people are allowed to take lead roles if they show initiative!

Advice to Management

-management was still stuck in the past; students questioned the need for so many phones and this criticism was in part brushed aside
-but now after losing more money the company has decided to cut many of their phones out of production; why didn't they listen sooner? It seemed pretty obvious that this would happen.

    I worked at BlackBerry full-time

    Pros

Opportunity to be part of a recovery story. Work with great people who care and are extremely resilient. Good benefits, including a BlackBerry device. Ability to take part in Beta programs, contribute to product quality and be first to see new developments as they happen.

    Cons

Management direction is still scattered and ineffective. At the top level it is pretty clear, but messaging and execution are not usually aligned. Bad managers are continuously allowed to treat people poorly and make bad decisions without consequence. Poor and ineffective marketing. Currently very little opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Cull the management herd. Enforce strategic objectives. Make sure people are celebrated rather than mistreated. Market strongly, own every aspect of customer purchasing decisions rather than relying on partners to do the heavy lifting.
