    Pros

A very nice environment to work in with a supportive line management and colleagues.(apart from the company shrinking in the past years and the frustration that comes with it)

Generally speaking, the technical staff is highly competent so there is an opportunity to learn.

    Cons

The company has been going through some rough times.

    Advice to Management

Try to have a strategy that sticks!

I worked at BlackBerry full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large variety of work, great experience, work with talented people and latest technologies in the consumer product and smartphone world. Great benefits.

    Cons

Very email-oriented company, some things take far too long. The people doing sales forecasting have no idea what they are doing, marketing seriously needs to pull up their socks.

    Advice to Management

Better managers are desperately needed in many areas of the company, though there are a lot of good managers, they seem to have quiet positions. The 'engineers' are in charge when, really, the 'customer' should be in charge. Marketing needs to really figure out what kind of hardware will sell. The IT department is a small disaster, "managers" seem to be pawns of other managers/employees, and have no real experience managing a large IT environment. The constant re-orgs have taken a toll, with good people fired without really thinking about who they are or what they can offer. Regular employees are mostly kept in the dark about the re-orgs and no one even knows after-the-fact what the plans are or thinking was behind a re-org. My advice to management: (1) a flatter organization will save you, (2) objectively review an employees performance, (3) Push your employees with proper goals/directives, (4) Some people are good engineers but not good managers.
