I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Smart people, decent product line up but that has changed with proliferation and high fees.

Cons

Smart people under-utilized because of politics and nonsense. If you are a self-promoter and do not mind constantly telling everyone how good and busy you are, you will do just fine. If you work hard and are humble, forget it, no one will recognize it.

Advice to Management

They should have promoted me years ago. My clients saw it, my peers saw, and I saw it. Now I work at a competitive firm and they see it. Something must be going wrong at BlackRock if they keep losing talented people.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good working environment with great working culture. The exposure to different aspects of the business is great. Employees have the potential to work on high profile projects.

    Cons

The company is extremely big and bureaucratic. The ability to move laterally is getting more and more difficult. This can lead to bad morale amongst the younger employees.

    Advice to Management

Be more open with employees on how they should improve their skill set in order to advance to the career of their choice.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Large information architecture
Largest investment manager in the world

    Cons

Highly lopsided structure -- not very analysts, but a lot of people VP/Director level that are looking to get promoted
Structurally created to not create any "superstars" to encourage loyalty to BR
