I have been working at BlackRock full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Large information architecture
Largest investment manager in the world

Cons

Highly lopsided structure -- not very analysts, but a lot of people VP/Director level that are looking to get promoted
Structurally created to not create any "superstars" to encourage loyalty to BR

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Looks good on resume (no idea why)

    Cons

    - Horribly behind on IT
    - Very little innovation
    - Everything politically challenged/ego driven
    - Assembly line org charts (internally called laughing squid model where one person who manages one person who manages one person who manages one person who manages one person)
    - No transparency on compensation, promotions, ratings, business model, nothing.
    - Killed all the reasons why people joined BGI.

    Advice to Management

Leave. All you do is get in the way of people that make contributions.

I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the people there are pretty solid, you can expect to learn all the industry standard stuff, oh, and making pretty powerpoint charts.

    Cons

The company now has 10000 employees, but it still feels like an old boys' club; with the few founders sitting on the top. You are either 'in' their circle or 'out'.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond the 3 people that always sit next to you, there are talents all around the firm.
