I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

If you want to learn a lot and be challenged daily this is the place to be. Things are always moving never a dull day. You get rewarded for effort knowledge and dedication.

Cons

Pace can be draining at times and the company runs lean. Needs to be the right fit if you are looking to collect a pay check without putting in the effort than blk is not for you.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Prestige, everyone knows BlackRock. Easy to move around if you get bored with your current role. BlackRock University is awesome for technical and soft skill workshops.

    Cons

Some of the managers never leave their offices and don't empower or talk to employees. Decent pay to start, and then it slowly (2-3% per year) creeps up, even for the great employees. I've seen this time and time again. Promotions are political, so you really have to network, which is a good if you're outgoing, but bad if you're shy even if you're an outstanding employee

    Advice to Management

Tell the managers to come out of their offices and talk to people. Stop hiring idiots so you can feed your ego.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very well respected company within the industry with a fantastic breadth of resources available for choice projects.

    Cons

Advancement is based purely on time spent at the company and has no connection to performance, skill sets or achievements within the company. If you are below Director level you will be treated with complete disdain as if you are an inferior human being to the Directors and above.

    Advice to Management

You can't live off of kids straight out of college who don't know that this is not what wit's like working elsewhere. Advancing people based only on their time with the company rewards those who keep their head down and avoid innovation while you push out those who would challenge the status quo and provide true, effective, long-term solutions that won't have to be fixed again down the road.
