I worked at BlackRock full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Pay, flexibility, benefits, resources, investment research. Blackrock has some great people working very hard in most departments and provides solid operational support.

Cons

Lack of promotions, chasing margins, technology, too big feeling. The company is being run to focus primarily on meeting next quarters budget and profit margin. Headcount is always changing and reducing which leaves increasing workload on the remaining employees.

Advice to Management

Make decisions for short-term goals and not focusing on creating long-term value. Need to invest more in the employees who want to work for the company and take care of the clients.

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Access to any type of research you can imagine. Wall Street firm with a great reputation. Name recognition across the street

    Cons

Office politics, weak middle management, confusing re-orgs are frequent, can feel too big, lack of sense that performance is rewarded (more about politics)

    Advice to Management

The vision for the company is great but at the bottom of the ladder I don't see that commitment to raising the bar. Middle management is not held accountable. I would implement 360 reviews and stop re organizing every 6 months

I have been working at BlackRock full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Challenging work; smart people; hard working; no slackers!

    Cons

Lots of re-orgs; shifting priorities; lots of "hoop jumping" to get easy things done

    Advice to Management

Minimize budget oversight and provide more cross career path opportunities --- all road should not lead to having to move to New York
