Approves of CEO

Pros

Some of the nicest people I've ever worked with. My co-workers are very hard working, helpful and smart. HR creates fun & team-building activities.

Cons

Long hours. Overwhelming work load and impractical deadlines. Too many Chiefs; not enough Indians. High burn-out rate. Changing priorities compete with accomplishment.

Advice to Management

Respect and acknowledgment for the hard-working contributors. Better communication to the teams. Hold business accountable to a plan and stick to an attainable plan. Changing priorities and competing demands distract from the possibility of accomplishment (for any one deliverable).

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    Interesting technical projects
    Good commute for some people
    Safeway generic items discount
    Health club membership for employees
Annual bowling day to compensate for the hundreds of unpaid hours

    Cons

Project teams often work in cramped windowless rooms eating "free" pizza for lunch and dinner
Zero privacy - all developers sit at long tables completely exposed
Contractors can only bill 40 hours no matter how much they work
Promises to make it up to us for the hard work - always lies
    Zero transparency from upper management
    Zero 401k employer match
    Poor compensation increases
Highly political environment - secrets and lies are everywhere
    Zero equity participation

    Advice to Management

If you don't start treating people right, you will soon not have anyone left to do your work. Your employees are not stupid - they know what you're doing, and probably they're getting ready to leave by now. We all understand that the business has priorities, but you have to balance those priorities against the reality that it takes time and good people to get things done.
