Pros

Blinds.com has always been a fun place to work, with some of the brightest talent in Houston. Since Home Depot buyout, we have been given more projects and opportunities for growth into new business areas. These projects are challenging and require us to rethink our current processes so that we can be more efficient and continue to learn. We also have tons of food for fuel and outlets such as small parties, ping pong, etc to relieve stress.

Cons

Transition of how to handle the merge with Home Depot. Communication from upper management can seem like they are not being 100% truthful and transparent.

    Pros

There are bunch of opportunities, all you need open eye and ear.

    Cons

sometimes favoritism, Management sometimes seems to be lost or dont want to convey details. More or life depends on pleasing Home depot but its Pro too and THD gets more business.

    Advice to Management

Open up and speak up more and tell people.

    Pros

Some of the brightest and smartest people work here.

    Cons

As some previous reviewers have said, favoritism and nepotism are rampant here. People in certain positions treat this as a family business, whose sole focus is on promoting and growing their favorites whether they deserve it or not. This only drags everyone else's morale down. Individual contributors who lack the skill and expertise of managing people are put in leadership positions based on favoritism and not on merit. They are not given any training or coaching and asked to lead teams of talented individuals. No wonder turnover has been so high over the last few months.
Micro-management is extremely prevalent and SLT could care a dime that some people are living exactly in the opposite end of the core values that are 'written all over the walls'.
The CEO believes in making all sorts of promises to Home Depot without thinking how it would impact the people who actually have to work to fulfill the promises, while he vacations all over the place.

    Advice to Management

Look for the unhappy faces in the company and ask them what is bothering them. 4 of 5 people would say it's how they are being treated and the pressure that they are being put under. No amount of cake can bring a smile on their faces if they are not treated well.
Wake up and look for signs, talk to the people, or you'll lose some dedicated hardworking people in your effort to keep the unqualified favorites.
