I worked at Blizzard Entertainment full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Blizzard has a really relaxed work environment based around the culture of the games they produce. It's very relaxed and everyone there is proud to be a nerd/geek. They offer great health benefits and bonuses and profit sharing to full time employees

Cons

The attendance policies in the Customer Service department is based on a point system. Each time you call out it's three points, and it only takes nine points to get a write up, and twelve to be fired. They do not accept doctors notes to excuse absences, and if you are gone for more than three days in a row you have to apply for FMLA to cover the time you missed or else you risk getting written up or fired. There is also a lot of favoritism that goes on.

"Great place to work, but Blizzard needs to step it up, to keep up with the rest of the industry."

I have been working at Blizzard Entertainment full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Make high quality games.
    Highly challenging for artists.
    Good people.
    Ok bonus plan.

    Cons

Pay is under scale for rest of industry.
As of late, Blizzard name has been somewhat tarnished.
Management HEAVY. And I mean HEAVY
    Almost zero career advancement opportunities.
Every voice matters mantra is far from the truth.

    Advice to Management

There are so many layers of unnecessary management, throughout all departments. Blizzard has lost it's way on what made Blizzard Blizzard.

I worked at Blizzard Entertainment full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    *Immense Job satisfaction
    *Prestige
*Perks, such as on-campus dining, exercise facilities, volleyball, basketball, movie theater, library, arcade rooms, etc etc

    Cons

*Lazy or Inept co-workers (speaking only of quality assurance)
*Managers that manage people based on 2nd-hand assumptions about an individual instead of actual experience with an individual. (Once again referring to quality assurance)
*Leads that abuse their position to cut corners, but then penalize individuals who don't cut corners because they 'take too long', even if they still finish within the assigned, allotted work-time. (quality assurance)
*Mandatory overtime is illegal, but employees were told they should volunteer for OT 'if they value their job'. Was working ~80 hours a week when SC 2 GoldMaster disc was shipped.
*One of the lowest paying studios in the industry

    Advice to Management

Quality Assurance @ Blizzard is full of conspiracies. Members often conspire to alter the way a project's advance appears in order to 'stay under the radar', even if they find problems, they often don't report them because there is little to no job security and the nail that stands out gets hammered down. Additionally the new employee trainers are inept and not afraid to scapegoat the temp hires or report false claims against temp (probational) employees based on false assumptions.
