I worked at Blockbuster part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A great place for a first job, flexible with schedules e.g. school, second job..., but also a great place to gain experience if you're looking to move up in the company to store manager/assistant manager (farley easy as long as you keep a great attitude). Helps you build confidence when speaking to customers. It’s definitely a diverse environment, both costumers, and workers. I had a wonderful experience working here.

    Cons

Rental prices kept changing and customers would complain- which in reality it just gives you an opportunity to improve on you skills when it comes to handling an angry customer or adapting to an ever changing work environment. You work 365 days a year, just like the cinema. Schedule work days off in advance (I'm talking 2 months and don’t let your co-workers know, they'll try to get off as well). Hope you have good planning skills.

    Advice to Management

Don't let your employees push you around.

I worked at Blockbuster full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Fair compensation
    Great co-workers
Dallas is a great place to work

    Cons

Inherited debt load (from Viacom) limited ability to keep pace with technology
Kept employing a retail strategy long after it was no longer a retail business
Had a chance to buy both Netflix and Redbox at one time...
Bad financial management in 2008-2011 and never recovered

    Advice to Management

    Probably too late for that
