I worked at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (More than a year)

Pros

- Free sneaks (but the selection has become worse)
- Nice office building in good location
- More stable than investment banks and other financial service firms

Cons

- No privacy in the office
- Small desk, no cubical
- Cost cutting: benefit has been reduced year over year and getting worse
- Slow growth
- No more free medical insurance. Use to be free, but now the company charge insurance premiums.
- High turnover. Many people leave within 2 year or less.
- very political place, very hard to get things done. Senior management does not want to take risk by invest in new projects.
- flat structure, hard to grow.
- Long working hour
- Below market average compensation

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

pays well, good health benefits, you get to work with very smart guys

    Cons

work is very hectic and challenging, some teams more than the others. Often have to spend long hours at work. Some of the technology is proprietary, so not beneficial when you move out of the company.

    Advice to Management

Management is different in different teams, so cannot comment on it. Overall higher management does a pretty good job in research, innovation, and marketing to stay ahead of competition.

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to start your career. Ability to learn from very bright people and work on projects that make a difference.

    Cons

Position is temporary with virtually no opportunity to get promoted for even those that exhibit talent and solid work ethic. Many full-time employees hardly ever acknowledge contract staff as deserving enough to breathe in the same air as them even though they are bright young people feeling the effects of the economy.

    Advice to Management

Reward those that have shown the necessary ability to contribute within the company.
