I worked at Bloomberg L.P. as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - the people you'll meet: I only stayed for an internship and built a great network of people
    - opportunity to travel early in your career
    - opportunity to oversee client account quickly

    Cons

    - 90% (at the I was there) of Bloomberg LP is the software business: if you do sales at Bloomberg, you sell a software solution - some people might think of sales positions as finance positions (similar to FX/equity/credit/como sales in banks); yes the software is about finance, but you sell the software - you won't sell financial research or trade (excl. Bloomberg Industries now). It seems that a lot of people join the company as an alternative to banks thinking they will still work 'in finance', Bloomberg is a software company above all else.

    Advice to Management

    - get rid of the policy that say "when you've left Bloomberg you cannot re-apply/come back"; plenty of staff in the company stay there because they are afraid of leaving, knowing they won't be able to come back if something goes wrong (even if one rarely come back in their previous company - that is what people start contemplating because of the policy. Hence you have a sheer amount of people not leaving because of this policy. Thus they stay at Bloomberg fearful and underperforming. I reckon these are the side-effects of the policy. Remove barriers to entry (and exit), the job market is a free market! Don't petrify people with counterproductive policy.

    Pros

People are nice, but not the most knowledgeable

    Cons

Expect to do the same every day - and leave your brain at the door.

    Advice to Management

    Try to promote honesty
