Approves of CEO

I have been working at Bloomberg L.P. full-time

Pros

Fast paced environment where there is always a strong emphasis on writing efficient code and delivering software on time. Also, there is a lot to learn from the smart people around you. People are helpful and willing to share their knowledge which in turn helps you to grow as a Software Developer. If you are interested in the world of finance, it is a great place to learn because the products are majorly financial products.

Cons

Monotony in terms of kind of projects you work on because majority of the products are finance based. Technology is very company specific. Although it is always evolving, you wouldn't enjoy that much if you would like to work on the new and upcoming technologies outside of the company.

I worked at Bloomberg L.P. as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great brand name, many other interns to meet, great program, many perks, good pay, lots of events for the interns, including a speaker every week from the C suite.

    Cons

No help finding housing. Some of the other department's interns complained about tedious work. Learning and opportunities differ highly based on what intern position you have.

I worked at Bloomberg L.P. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tremendous benefits, beautiful working environment, some sweet perks, and they definitely allow you the opportunity to move around to different departments,

    Cons

Middle management is a mixed bag, some are great but many of them are inflexible because the corporate culture discourages innovation; this is definitely the type of company where, in order to get promoted, you need to drink the kool-aid; the pay is lousy (especially in the beginning) and the "certs" bonus plan guarantees that you will have to stay at this company for quite a few years, performing at a high level, before you are finally compensated even a little bit.

    Advice to Management

It's been a while since I was there, so hopefully this has improved, but my advice is this: Select managers based on ability (this includes the ability to work with people as well as basic intelligence) rather than seniority. You are killing your sales people by adhering to archaic practices in terms of management. Be as innovative in your treatment of employees as you are with your products and you'll love the results.
