Pros

There is excellent opportunity for professional growth, exposure to great teaching staff, and wonderful student and parent movtivation and cooperation. The school district is totally devoted to the community and meeting the needs and demands of parents and students. There are many opportunities for education and improvement through in-services, conferences and further college courses. The staff is very professional and motivated.

Cons

Expectations of parents and administration are sometime unrealistic in terms of what a student can achieve. Parents demands are high for getting students into the right colleges. To work here you must be prepared to answer all parent call, demands and complaints in a pleasant and positive manner.

Advice to Management

Central admnistrators should spend more time in the classrooms, and make decisions based on more staff input.
Sometimes those with the least ability get promoted or achieve administrative positions based on who they know or who they patronize.

I have been working at Bloomfield Hills Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had a one-year position there as a long-term substitute. It was an easy job compared to working in poor districts. After 30 days my pay was bumped up significantly. Lots of resources. It's very multicultural which is wonderful.

    Cons

I came from poor districts and while some kids definitely had troubles there were a lot of non-issue problems. In a some ways the principal was good but she was about as cuddly as a porcupine. More families threat and do a lawsuit since they can afford it. The perks for teachers are very few. Even if you're lucky to get a 1% raise, insurance goes up every year and there are so many things being deducted that you will keep going backwards especially if you're at the top of the pay scale or not allowed to advance a step. I wouldn't recommend anyone go into teaching but if you insist then this would be a district to try to get a job.

    Advice to Management

You can still be the boss and be friendly.
