I worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma & Texas | HCSC full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Friendly people in your hiring class
Good pay
Great quality coaches!!!

Cons

Management doesn't care about employees, unless they are one of the favorites.
High high high turnover
They make the job sound great at first, but it ends up being horrible.
If you do not understand something right away, they will make it harder on you so that you just quit instead.
They have such a high turnover rate that they don't care about the individuals. They know they will just be hiring more people soon.
Do not ever have a personal emergency or a life changing event around the same time period, because they could care less about what happens with you if you do not have saved days off.

Advice to Management

They need to start paying individual attention to their employees, not overlook them. Stop choosing favorites and do your job. Make the management answer phones too. My previous manager had no idea what to do if she was asked a question, because she never had to do that. Realize that people get married and have children, and even though they do, they might still get sick too.

I worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma & Texas | HCSC full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very few. Optimism conveyed from initial position entry rapidly dissipates once the status of management methodology and project management non-philosophy become evident.

    Cons

Successful completion of your work / project as designed and approved will go unnoticed, except by management at year-end, who will then claim that the effort was 'driven' to completion by themselves in order to put another check-mark on their respective performance review. In reality, very few in management have any technical background related to your project, and could care less about your concerns unless a complication arises which could even remotely impact the project schedule.
And your respective performance review ? Forget it, unless you need a good laugh. They are all simply another management tool to inhibit raises, designed and rated to give everyone an 'average' grade so that no one stands out.

    Advice to Management

Get some. Current suits in place could care less about management performance and efficiencies; only concerned with promoting apprehension within ranks while expousing ridiculous management policy 'adjustments'. Really only concerned with padding their year-end bonuses.

I worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma & Texas | HCSC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The job of Customer Service Rep pays well. There is lots of training available and room for advancement IF you keep overachieving at your current position.

    Cons

Overtime is expected, and very strict adherence to schedule (including no extra time allowed for bathroom breaks). VERY demanding and they expect perfection.

    Advice to Management

    We are not robots.
