I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good insurance and good benefits with some of the plans-fair premiums compared to most plans outside of the company. Some are allowed to telecommute if you meet your goals.

    Cons

No chance for advancement if you are not friends with certain people. People that have no experience are hired and paid wages higher than those that are experienced. Work-life balance is advertised a a perk and that you would be allowed to work alternate work schedules, but again it is based on who you know; if you are allowed to do this. People of color do not advance well in the case management section. You can apply and apply from within and never get an interview.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites and stop all of the bickering and back-biting. Listen to your staff they are the one doing the job.

    Pros

    They pay really. really well.

    Cons

Everyone runs around in constant fear for their job. You try hard at BCBSA not because you want to get ahead, but because you don't want to mess up. If you've ever wanted to know why healthcare costs so much in this country, spend about a week working for these folks.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to play both sides of the fence when it's obvious which side you're on.
