Pros

Certain types of financial professionals could probably have a good deal of success at this oh-such-an-insurance company. Other professionals - especially those in technical or design fields - will scratch their head at how they could be treated with so little respect and abandoned by those who, it would seem, should need them the most.

Cons

The people who work the hardest and have the most structured approach to accomplishing their goals may find themselves the target of lifer employees' blame and intrigue. And those caught in the middle may feel disenfranchised and hopeless. Our team was not given the trust and tools we needed to succeed. Technical professionals beware, you are merely an expense in the eyes of this leadership team.

Advice to Management

i don't feel like any has ever been requested or desired, so there is no use offering it.

I worked at Blue Shield Of California full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great bonuses: The year end bonuses can be substantial. If your group does well, they can be tens of thousands of dollars, depending on your level
    - Wellness Programs - they offer discounts on Weight Watchers, Gym memberships, etc for people who want to get healthy
    - Telecommuniting Options - space in Sacramento is hard to come by, so they often let you work from home

    Cons

    - They cut people, jobs, etc when they really don't need to. It's a company that acts like a for profit and doesn't support it's staff to the event that they should
    - BSC charges high premiums for health care!! They are a provider, but offer not real incentives for their employees

    Advice to Management

    - listen to your people and actually DO SOMETHING! You have all these people meetings, but we never saw real change.
