Pros

Great mission
Non-profit
San Francisco HQ
Company is changing with the Accountable Care Act

Cons

On par with the insurance industry means it operationally has a lot of room to improve.
Change happens but it happens slower than most would prefer. Patience is needed.

Advice to Management

Take accountability and stop dependence on consultants

I have been working at Blue Shield Of California full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employee benefits are affordable, pay is on the higher side of low.

    Cons

This is the most stressful job I've ever had. Constant management shake ups, finger pointing. No real direction or accountability. We are told every single year that next year open enrollment will be better and it only gets worse. Tons of mandatory over time. Constant black out months for time off. Every holiday becomes a mandatory overtime day. And they have a management trainee program that sounds good on paper but its just a bunch of fresh out of college kids with no experience being placed on management positions and running the place into the ground. Moral is at an all time low. Miserable place to be!

    Advice to Management

    need rotation program
