Pros

Benefits and an employee/co-worker support are good. There are many very long term empoyees that drive a generally accepting and friendly culture.

Cons

Silos in the company frequently prevent the company from performing as well as it could.

    Pros

Good people abound, solid benefits, can make very good money, especially in good years. Balanced customer focus between dealer, industrial, and big box.

    Cons

Frequent Q4 layoffs trying to hit annual numbers to please Wall Street, which it can't seem to do no matter how hard it tries anyway because of its even more foundational flaw, that of not being able to consistently do anything well long enough to become masters at it, yet continuing to repeat past mistakes over and over again when a new chief comes in and says, "hey, let's move that cheese!"

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to shift positions just for the sake of "looking" like you're doing something in a positive direction. Instead, recognize those things you do well, and refuse to stop doing them; and learn from your mistakes, correct them, and refuse to make them anymore. Stop letting the tail wag the dog. And for crying out loud, stop repeating the mantra of "customer first" when your actions so often say otherwise ... actually commit to that philosophy with your actions, not just your words.

  2. "BlueLinx management is caught in "flavor of the day" management style, instead of deciding who they want to be."

    Pros

Good benefits, decent pay, very good internal support services.

    Cons

Knee jerk, hindsight management that caters to short-term information rather than being focused on a sustainable, long-term strategy.
