Pros

Prestige on resume to work for a well-known, still working, makeup artist. I did get some wedding outside jobs that I may not have, because I worked here and used these products on bridal clients.

Cons

Extreme favoritism is rampant through all levels of company. You only get recognition for job well done if you kiss up, not because you are a talented artist. Some of the "National Artists" or "beauty team" has less talent than the counter staff, yet they kiss up so they have a postition they aren't worthy of, talent wise. Takes a looong time to be promoted to a higher position. Management is unprofessional, discussing inappropriate topics, employee issues where others are within ear shot.

Advice to Management

Since the company focus is mainly artistry training, management levels should be required to take college level management courses to learn how to treat employees better and be more professional.

    Pros

Great product and makeup skills to learn from ; fantastic education artistry; Business Travel opportunities for market exposure ; free products on sister brands in Estée Lauder group

    Cons

Unclear global guideline and chaotic management without standardization; Demanding for both strategic level and hands-on execution all-in-one while meeting with several tight deadlines with no entry level staff to support for; Low team spirit ; political working environment

    Advice to Management

Simplifying internal and external reporting process

  2. "Unconscious bias rules at Bobbi! Don't expect a promotion, or opportunities unless you look, sound and behave like them!"

I have been working at Bobbi Brown Cosmetics as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to improve your makeup skills as it's a well established brand and new customers come looking for expert advice on makeup.
50% discount on Bobbi and other brands owned by the Estee Lauder group
Fab Head office building in London
    Excellent products

    Cons

Unfortunately, It's all about the sales.

    In-house training is sporadic

Many managers have very little experience with people management.

The pay is poor particularly for some agency workers (Bureau their in-house agency)

There is no flexi working in stores, which is ridiculous when you think of the amount of women or working mums they employ

Challenging working practices or anything that doesn't make sense is not viewed at all well.

    Advice to Management

The lack of diversity within the organisation is shocking in 2017. Look at your organisation as a whole, particularly in the UK. Ask the question, why there is a lack of diversity in senior management, roles and start to change that! Set up a group that can look exclusively at that and implement ways to turn things around.

Train those who are recruiting and interviewing to be aware of their own bias. Roll out the training to every level of management right to the top include every Head of Department, and CEO

You recruit women, look at flexi working. Try it, it can work!

Check out what all your employees earn, is it right and fair?

    Appraisals rarely happen. Why?

Allow employees to appraise their managers, I'm sure a lot of bad habits and practices would stop!
