Pros

Boeing pays for continued education 100% Opportunity to move around the company and find a job you like.

Cons

Boeing is downsizing it's benefits packages. Outsourcing. Cyclical jobs. Living in rainy Seattle (there are other job locations). Less than competitive wages, depending on the program. Hierarchical atmosphere. Communication difficulties between groups.

Advice to Management

Invest in new technology and ideas. Listen to your new, young people coming out of college who want to work cutting edge jobs and are communication savvy. Put back better medical options, quit outsourcing so much and find innovative ways (besides hiring more contractors) to stabilize the company's cyclical swings.

    Pros

Compensation and Benefits are okay for the Seattle area. Boeing rewards education by reimbursing for tuition, etc. And when you get a degree Boeing awards stock.

    Cons

Recognition is given sporadically. Management does not treat employees with respect, and treats competent employees just the same as incompetent or lazy employees. All action is taken to prevent litigation rather than to enhance the quality of the workforce - for example, the structured interview. The few managers who respect their employees and give their employees the freedom to excel at work, and who are therefore the popular managers, are ostracized by other managers.

    Advice to Management

Employees know that the wrong people are often given management positions - look at the lastt employee satisfaction survey. Find out what the 'popular' managers are doing with their employees, and make that the benchmark for management.

    Pros

    Company educational and health benefits.

    Cons

Experience of management team. Senior management lack of vision. Good 'ol boy network. Values cost over experience. Mass layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Hire competent management team and oversee them. Provide a system where the right people are held accountable for bad decisions. Provide a system where high risk decisions are reviewed by at least two tiers of management.
