    I worked at Books-A-Million part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can borrow books to read as long as there are enough copies in stock to satisfy demand. The work is easy and you stay pretty busy with stocking shelves or shelf-reading. Plenty of opportunities to move into specialist roles for some extra responsibilities.

    Cons

Selling membership cards is difficult. When I was there you had to sell 1 card for every $300 in your drawer. If you didn't make your quota, you were written up and discharged after 3 write ups. Most of the customers either already had a card or weren't there often enough to get one. Sometimes customers would become irate after being asked during multiple visits.

    Advice to Management

Push your employees to sell more merchandise, not more membership cards. You'll get more respect from your employees and the customers.
