I have been working at Booz Allen Hamilton full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good people, real assessment process. Reasonable advancement opportunity. Good ECAP - retirement bonus each year. Good solid benefits.Pay seems lower than other beltway bandits but the job is a little more stable.

Cons

Too much overhead, strange short sighted decision-making from management team, need for billable work - if you lose this, you lose your job. Carlyle Group is bent on running this storied brand into the ground so they can cash out. Talk a good game about work/life balance but ask for a lot of unpaid overtime from junior staff and look the other way on time charging policy violations.

Advice to Management

Cut the fat, reduce the number of VPs and Officers drastically, get out of the staff augmentation business, and buy out the Carlye group.Come up with a real plan to deal with Government cuts by diversifying into the private sector.

I worked at Booz Allen Hamilton full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Although I worked primarily for a single government client, I was able to spend about 20% of my time on other assignments, some with private industry. Tremendous depth of knowledge makes it easy to staff new projects or learn from the best. On the government side, the culture was informal. Much more rigid on industry side. Strong emphasis on deliverable timeliness and quality.

    Cons

It is a pyramid marketing organization - promotion primarily rewards selling addition services or adding new clients. Technical skills only go so far. On dedicated contracts, it's easy to transfer allegiance to the client, rather than Booz, and opportunities for new work and advancement
