I worked at Boston University full-time (More than a year)

Pros

- Relaxed work environment
- Great advisor and co-workers
- Plenty of learning opportunities
- Plenty of growth opportunities

Cons

- Can get boring sometimes
- If academic research isn't for you then you'll crash out quickly
- Academic pay scale leaves a lot to be desired

Advice to Management

- Keep up the good work and please do what my advisor did: When someone decides to leave let them stay on until they find another job. Biggest blessing I had.

I have been working at Boston University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing benefits: matching 403b, health, dental.
Classes are nearly free (90% off after taxes, for 2 classes/semester).
Environment and culture can vary greatly. In small departments, can be very personal and fun. In large ones you can get pretty lost.

    Cons

This place has so many employees that it takes forever to get buy-in to do much of anything. I spend more time getting buy-in than I do getting things done.

    Advice to Management

Big goals and values really do help, so stick with it. Try to cut down on governance committee sizes where feasible.

  2. "Great place to work for students."

I have been working at Boston University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many opportunities to work with professors and interact with staff members over the course of my job. Down time to study when work load is not significant.

    Cons

Not that many cons, except the construction in the SMG building has made everything different and more difficult to adjust to. More pros than cons definitely.
