I have been working at Boston University full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Amazing benefits: matching 403b, health, dental.
Classes are nearly free (90% off after taxes, for 2 classes/semester).
Environment and culture can vary greatly. In small departments, can be very personal and fun. In large ones you can get pretty lost.

Cons

This place has so many employees that it takes forever to get buy-in to do much of anything. I spend more time getting buy-in than I do getting things done.

Advice to Management

Big goals and values really do help, so stick with it. Try to cut down on governance committee sizes where feasible.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Boston University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many opportunities to work with professors and interact with staff members over the course of my job. Down time to study when work load is not significant.

    Cons

Not that many cons, except the construction in the SMG building has made everything different and more difficult to adjust to. More pros than cons definitely.

"Wonderful or a nightmare - depends on the department/supervisor"

I have been working at Boston University full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - tuition remission
     - good retirement benefits
     - faculty/staff discount

    Cons

    - salaries are not up to part with some other area universities
     - too much emphasis on appearances, e.g. lux residence halls, etc.
     - rigid salary grades

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to staff/faculty satisfaction than to appearance to attract more students.
