I worked at Bowman and Brooke full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Really enjoyed working with the attorneys and staff....very team oriented environment. Generally, a great place to work and good benefits. I was there for 15 years and received great experience working on high exposure, catastrophic cases, and learned how to properly manage a large case load. Trials all over the country and experience working with partners and associates from other offices. Opportunity for a lot of OT if you are a trial paralegal. As a paralegal at B and B, you will be doing very substantive work, often considered associate level work at other firms. If you are someone that isn't afraid of hard work and wants to gain great experience, this is a great place to work. Great networking with clients, experts, etc. If you excel at B and B, you will see many great opportunities come your way.

    Cons

The billable requirement for paralegals is 1800 hours, and unless you get a significant amount of OT to counteract whatever PTO you take, making this target can be difficult. The target is much higher than it is for paralegals at comparable competitors. If you are a trial paralegal, expect to work a lot of hours and travel for trial can last weeks, if not months at a time. (This can also be a "pro" as well!! Office management (at least during the majority of my tenure there) wants to micromanage paralegals.

    Advice to Management

Paralegals are timekeepers that bill a lot of time for the firm, and should be treated as professionals. Paralegals should be managed by the attorneys, not the Office Manager.
