Be careful not to get too far from what made you successful as the company becomes more mature.

    Pros

Close to IPO. Free food. Very young and hip atmosphere if you're just out of college. Benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

Culture is not much fun if you happen to get stuck working closely with the founders inner circle in the engineering organization. They're not very good and tend to be an odd combination of autocratic and randomizing so you feel like you're being micro-managed and dumbed down when working with them. Work life balance is not very good compared with other similar stage companies. Building is already packed to capacity (they moved in just over year ago.) Company has big bias toward hiring young out of college.

    Advice to Management

Get more experienced people in the company and better managers who are much good at leading teams.

I worked at Box as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The most exciting time to be at Box: it's growing fast, gearing up for an IPO, but still small enough that the startup spirit is still there, and that you get to see the higher-level execs often. Charismatic CEO & CFO (Aaron Levie and Dylan Smith, the early founders) and COO (Dan Levin). Great collaboration between teams and across services in the company, and a lot of space to make your ideas heard.

    Cons

Because it grew so fast, there is a lot of technical debt, a lot of things to fix, and, overall, a lot of work. Risk that the startup culture will gradually fade away. Food could be better, and the building is starting to feel small again.

    Advice to Management

    My manager was great!
