I worked at Boy Scouts of America as an intern (More than a year)

Pros

Expand your knowledge of the outdoors and share with others. Create memories to last a lifetime.

Cons

Low pay, opportunity to truly have a lasting impact on the kids is difficult with available time together.

    Pros

    Extremely rewarding.
    Coworkers become a family.

    Cons

Very political, a lot of brown nosing will get you places.

    Advice to Management

Be more selective about camp administration. They have weeded out some great people who genuinely cared and replaced them with low-quality employees

I worked at Boy Scouts of America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ok for an entry level job. Good benefits. Gives you a true look at the harsh realities of the real world.

    Cons

They don’t care for your personal time. Long and ridiculous hours, including working on Sundays. Yes, Sundays. Poor opportunities for advancement. Awful upper management. Only care about raising money to pay bills. Could care less about the values of the program itself.

    Advice to Management

Try to inspire your staff by showing that you actually care about the Scouting rather than just the numbers.
