I have been working at Boys & Girls Clubs full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Teaching kids, bonding with them and their families. The co-workers were nice and fun to be around as well. Everyone got along for the most part and always helped eachother when needed.

Cons

Constantly undergoing new management. Very unorganizd. Usually always had to work overtime, but they did not allow overtime pay after a while.

Advice to Management

Have more staff meetings to ensure that everyones needs and concerns are heard and met.

I have been working at Boys & Girls Clubs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work done by clubs is amazing. Not always innovative but the local clubs are a pilar and extension of many families and truly save the lives of so many kids.
New national leadership seems to be of this century compared to the former CEO who truly let Rome burn while she did, well, something.

    Cons

    Massive silos, dysfunction
No work life balance for some while others punch the clock.
Pay is absurdly low for a national organization. The benefits are fair but do not offset the pay.
Zero professional development for all but a few friends of HR.
Some strong VP's but very few. Lack of RD leadership is clear. Strong director level and down but not up.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your mid level employees, not just VP level who can get your ear and jockey for position, get rid of your gossipy, crony based hr staff. This is a critical time and you are losing the good people who do the work and keeping the bench Warmers and credit stealers.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working as a Director at multiple after school programs and summer camps was extremely rewarding. Some of the kids in the program really need positive mentors. I saw very positive results in many of the children that had difficulties at home, school, etc.

    Cons

Sometimes BGCA hires staff employees that are too young or immature to meet the emotional needs that some of these children have. These employees often gossip and cause a disruptive environment instead of focusing on the safety and well being of the kids.

    Advice to Management

Training for employees on team work and mandatory classes/training on educational/emotional support and enrichment would be very beneficial for all. Pay higher ranking employees more and reward them for their excellence.
