I have been working at Boys and Girls Town of Missouri full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great healthcare coverage. Cool co-workers to work with.

Cons

Job can get dangerous, but no one really warns you of that when you apply. Should get paid more for what youth care specialists have to do.

I have been working at Boys and Girls Town of Missouri full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Seeing the progress some of the kids make is absolutely remarkable. It's an amazing feeling to know you're making a difference for some of the children.

    Cons

Any and all kids are accepted into the program, including kids who are a known danger to staff. There are no consequences for the kids actions, no matter how violent they are. I've seen many members of staff hit, kicked, choked, thrown into the walls, etc, and nothing is done to the kids. There are also many highly suicidal kids on campus, and nothing more stressful than having to cut strings/cords off of a kids neck. Lots of cutting and attempted strangulation. The other big downfall is that night staff is usually alone in the cottages with 12-16 kids.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and staff the cottages better.
