I have been working at Brenner Tank full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

realistically... other than the fact that it's a job... none.

    Cons

Let me begin this by saying that Brenner could be a great place to work if some important changes are made. Some of this depends on what shift you work, and some of this is an all-around criticism. On the shift that I work... One of the people in charge is a kid straight out of college who knows nothing about welding and almost nothing about manufacturing. The other leadership just doesn't care at all about much,... other than looking for petty things to whine and murmur about. One person in leadership, that does care, consistently has more and more authority taken away from them, which makes no sense at all (unless you work at Brenner tank, where everything is backwards). Most equipment needs to be replaced or fixed. If a welder runs properly for an entire shift, you're lucky. Then when your job takes you an extra hour or 2 because of their faulty equipment, they blame you and don't care about any of the countless valid reasons you have to explain to them. Brenner tank does not care about making a quality product. They only care about getting the garbage they produce out the door as quickly as possible. For this reason, morale is consistently very poor, and a job that could be fun, is extraordinarily frustrating. When you're hired they'll tell you its Mon-Fri with an "occasional" mandatory Saturday. Its not an occasional Saturday. Its almost every Saturday, all year round. A few Saturdays are voluntary, but most will be mandatory. Forget about having any life outside of work.

    Advice to Management

Brenner could be a great place to work if you make some very important changes. Replace (not repair) items when needed. Teach your employees to take care of the equipment. If workers are damaging equipment, look into the real problem and fire the person. Do better on checking references. I'm not talking about a background check. I'm talking about simply asking more about someone to know what kind of worker they are... and what kind of attitude they have. Fire the supervisors who don't care and institute managers that actually do care about the company and the product. You also have some people in leadership that lie to keep others in leadership out of trouble when they should rightfully be fired for their actions and treatment of others. Those kinds of people are dangerous, both for honest employees, and for the company. Firing 2 specific individuals would go a long way to eliminating many problems completely. Stop making employees work mandatory Saturdays. Either make them all voluntary or bring on a full 3rd shift (like you were supposed to do according to Wabash, the company who owns Brenner Tank). You should also start listening to the input of the floor employees. The problem is that you've created an environment where all of us know that nothing is going to change for the better, even if we do say something, because we've only watched things get worse and worse. You have a long way to go to rebuild the confidence of your people.
