I have been working at Brickman full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Very profitable company, still striving to be the biggest, no matter what it takes.

Cons

Limited communication between the regional staff and corporate.Operations run by many without industry experience.

Advice to Management

Move the people with the knowledge and experience up to help the company obtain it's goals, not so many young minds that want to make it easy.

I worked at Brickman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people are very hard-working, principled individuals holding onto the values that grew this company from a Mom N Pop to a multi-million $ national leader: service, quality, continuous improvement. The branch teams in particular still have that "one-for-all, all-for-one" family feel. And some of them still hold true to the founder's belief that you do what's right and pay attention to quality and profit will follow (though that's harder to justify on a spreadsheet these days).

    Cons

New management from outside the industry over the past few years has "codified" and sterilized the business. I believe this has served to increase the disconnect between corporate and the field offices. Too much corporate speak and impersonal spread-sheet jockeying can make the average branch manager's head spin. The danger in that is it's easy to get away from walking the talk that was responsible for Brickman excelling over the competition for all those years.

    Advice to Management

Values are not just something you put on a website or banner. Please pay more attention to living those values, else Brickman is in danger of losing its soul. But maybe that doesn't matter so much when you have the title you wanted or the slice of the pie you negotiated. People are what makes Brickman great. Please take care of them with more than lip service.
