I have been working at Bridgewater Associates full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Intelligent and smart people who will question and ensure that you question your logic. Much better understanding of what good management looks like and what good management can and should deliver. The culture is very defined and novel. Because of its importance, the company works hard to ensure that like minded (culturally in agreement wise) people are there.

Cons

Very slow to get changes through. Not many opportunities for growing and developing my technical abilities and skills. Felt that those abilities were stagnating. Some of the implementation of the culture leaves a bit to be desired.

I worked at Bridgewater Associates as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Food that you can take home for dinner
    - Open gym
    - Decent pay
    - Chance to live in your very own Borg Cube fantasy

    Cons

    - The 'objective' culture is a joke. It's more like a cult where it's everyone versus you, and the managers choose what is 'objectively' right or wrong.
    - Lots of assumptions about processes are made by employees because thinking outside of the box or learning more than what is necessary is frowned upon.
    - No real opportunities to grow or develop as a person or professional.
    - Very negative, critical culture with no balancing enthusiasm or positivity.
    - It's sad to see how crushed the personalities of the more tenured employees have become.

    Advice to Management

    - Your opinions aren't objective.
    - Don't take it personally when others disagree or act differently than you.
    - Work on developing your employees into something better than robots.
    - If the culture works at all, it's working in the revenue-generating departments, and in operations, you're not a beneficiary of that.

I worked at Bridgewater Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-great top-down thinking training similar to an experience at a consulting firm
-great experience straight out of school to see a radical mgmt approach
    -smart people mostly

    Cons

-people only value top-down thinking, do not value engineering, bottoms-up approach
-can be a terrible place to rot if you don't become a top performer
-a lot of the smart people are actually just very argumentative for the purpose of winning debates, unnecessarily abrasive and condescending and some people are hilariously evident brown nosers who are just hanging on to their job as a "culture carrier" who don't deliver much real, tangible value to the business. It can take a while before these people are sorted out (ex. demoted from Asset Class Leader to Compliance Analyst)
