Approves of CEO

Pros

The engineering staff is very knowledgeable and, generally speaking, Broadcom is far superior in its execution than its competitors

Cons

The base compensation is low compared to our similarly sized competitors (Qualcomm, TI, etc). This used to be due to the fact that the compensation package was tilted heavily towards equity, but any employee who didn't join Broadcom before the year 2000 did not really get significant benefit from the equity package. Now, with the stock price being flat to down over the last 6 years, the overall compensation at Broadcom is low.

Advice to Management

Please improve compensation, especially in (obscenely) high cost areas like Silicon Valley

    Pros

medical and dental benefits are wonderful

    Cons

corporate services as an unecessary layer of management and not reporting directly to those people that I support

    Advice to Management

need to make reception coverage the same for all administrative III's so there is not strife within the ranks

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Decent pay with stock benefits. Good Cafeteria. Some groups have really interesting technology. Mid-level management pretty solid. Good balance of work and life. Company seems really interested in retaining good talent (after seeing a bunch walk out). Seems to invest well in R&D for critical groups.

    Cons

Not easy to transfer job functions (ie from group to group) It seems generally not to be encouraged. It started to have that "big company" feel to it. When you need help you have to traverse the management ladder. Sometimes high level management is short sighted on certain projects. Some less visible groups can go underfunded.

    Advice to Management

Be more open with the employees and staff.
